Position Summary:
Maintenance Engineers works in the field with operating area personnel, production engineers, and all levels of the Manufacturing organization to ensure the safe and profitable operation of the assigned plant
Production Engineers are responsible for supporting plant operations in meeting daily KPIs by providing troubleshooting, rapid problem solving, and process improvements. The Production Engineers will develop strategies for projects to improve plant performance.
Process Engineers interact with the business, R&D, and plant groups to identify improvements and expansions to existing product lines. This position develops new products and processes that will sustain and grow the business This position ensures that the process engineering standards and procedures are met during the development, design, and construction phases of a project and works to improve these processes in parallel. The Process Engineer provides process technology support to operating plants.
Technical Engineers interact with the business, R&D, and plant groups to identify improvements and expansions to existing product lines. This position develops new products and processes that will sustain and grow the business. This position ensures that the process engineering standards and procedures are met for the assigned area(s). The Technical Engineer provides process technology support to operating plants.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Improve the baseline value of key area metrics toward entitlement values (or beyond entitlement values where possible) through contributions to high-impact Six Sigma teams
- Execute “Improve” and “Control” steps in Six Sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve & Control) process
- Restore baseline values of key area metrics for which restoration attempts by the Production department have been unsuccessful (for problems other than mechanical breakdown)
- Troubleshoot area process issues and de-bottleneck systems to maintain safety and environmental compliance and/or maximize production
- Ensure daily Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met or exceeded
- Implement robust control plans for process improvement projects by fully utilizing DCS (distributed control system) capabilities
- Monitor production in terms of quality, yield throughout cycle times, process parameters, and safety and environmental regulations
- Complete work using the fundamentals of process simulation with simulation program(s)
- Design a range of unit operations including reaction, distillation, refrigeration, fired heaters, and heat exchangers
- Interact with the operating personnel and other departments to facilitate production, process trouble-shooting, and equipment maintenance
- Provide integrations of manufacturing input for safety, quality, reliability, and operability into design
- Perform process engineering calculations and comprehend PI&D drawings for the purposes of trouble-shooting and process modifications
- Assist with SOP and training material development
- Lead the development of Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) packages for the business segments
- Process equipment and instrumentation sizing and specification development
- Leading Process Hazard Analysis/HAZOP activities
- Supporting capital project engineers through detailed design, equipment purchases, construction, and startup
- Work within teams to identify and implement longer term process improvement efforts, with the overall goal being to achieve improved safety, higher yields, better production rates, and higher attainment
- Identify and implement improvements on basic control schemes and advanced process control strategies
- Assist plant operations in key growth, cost savings, or stability projects
- Ensure quality assurance of engineering calculations, process simulations, and engineering drawings
- Assist in development of strategic and long-term focus for assigned area to encompass planning for projects into AOP and STRAP
- Interface with Supply Chain, Quality, DCS, and other groups as necessary to ensure continuous improvement and seamless delivery of customer needs
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or related working experience
- 0-2+ years of experience in process, production, and/or manufacturing engineering within the chemical, petroleum, and/or polymer industrial manufacturing environments

- Excellent organizational, planning, and verbal and written communication skills
- Must be self-motivated and goal-oriented with proven success working independently and in a multi-functional team environment
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of an organization and ability to work in a team environment
- Knowledgeable in areas of process equipment, chemistry, and controls
- Experience with process simulation tools such as ASPEN, PipeFlo, HTRI, Minitab, Excel, InstruCalc, Autodesk, Navisworks Freedom, Uniformance and pipe hydraulics programs
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Experience in Petrochemical/chemical-based manufacturing such as ammonia, urea, methanol, etc. preferred
- Lean manufacturing experience is a plus
- Experience with Front-End-Loading (FEL) and stage gate project development for major capital projects
- Experience in polymer/resin processing
- Experience in solids handling and/or fertilizer manufacturing
- Experience in large and small molecule production at an industrial scale
- Experience in major and minor process equipment design, selection, commissioning, and startup
- Experience in designing and executing projects
- Experience in Process Safety Management covered processes
- Familiarity with DCS programs such as Experion, Foxboro, or DeltaV
