Position Summary:

Oversee the physical Quality Assurance (QA) Laboratory facility, instrumentation, and analytical methodology and satellite labs to maintain plant quality from raw materials to finished products. Train and guide QA and plant personnel performing QA functions in new techniques and improvements in old techniques. Help maintain the highest quality of work possible for the Quality Assurance Laboratory. Help the Quality System Manger on all customer complaint investigations. Empowered to act “in responsible charge” of the laboratory in Quality Systems Manager’s absence.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Operations Technicians performing analytical testing and ensuring their compliance with all safety and laboratory procedures
  • Validate laboratory technician results and provide troubleshooting maintenance support for all laboratory instrumentation
  • Ensure compliance with ISO-9001:2015 quality management system
  • Develop, validate, and implement new or improved analysis methods
  • Monitor all laboratory instrumentation as to its operation and to intercede when results are suspect
  • Develop, implement, and monitor analytical methodology for the analysis of routine and non-routine samples
  • Maintain supplies of all laboratory materials through interaction with suppliers
  • Give technical support to production units as necessary
  • Work with Quality Systems Manager to resolve all customer complaints or request for services
  • Perform duties safely with minimal supervision
  • Assist and support in the maintaining of the Plant Quality Assurance system
  • Responsible person in charge in Quality Systems Manager’s absence

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an associate degree in Chemistry or related science (Bachelor’s Degree preferred) with 2 years of Process Laboratory experience
  • Direct knowledge of the use and maintenance of gas chromatography, atomic absorption, liquid chromatography UV-VIS spectroscopy
  • Mechanical ability to troubleshoot instruments and assist in repairs
  • Knowledge of analytical chemistry and qualitative analyses
  • Knowledge of industrial analytical chemistry with experience in organic and/or inorganic analysis
  • Knowledge and ability to use in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; VBAc experience is helpful

Additional Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with routine quantitative chemical analysis, including instrumental and skilled in wet chemistry analytical techniques including colorimetric, titrimetric, and gravimetric
  • Experience with quality management systems (ISO-9001;2008/2015; ISO14000/14001
  • Familiarity with operation of an environmental laboratory
  • Able to effectively supervise, direct, evaluate, and communicate with all levels of the workforce
  • Must be able to work independently, multitask, and prioritize work for self and others
  • Must be a good team player with an ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment to contribute to multiple, complex, and competing projects
  • Experience with oracle-based LIMS and SAP is preferred
  • Skilled in chromatography techniques especially gas, liquid and ionic, with familiarity in operating data acquisition and processing software preferred
  • Must be able to take off-hour calls when required and to provide on-call service as needed
