Position Summary:

  • The Reliability Engineer works closely with field Maintenance Engineers, Project Engineers, operating area personnel, and all levels of the Maintenance organization to ensure the safe and profitable operation of the assigned plant.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Vibration Monitoring program, working with third party contractor that collects data, entering in Preventive/Predictive Maintenance notifications for repair in SAP
  • Responsible equipment as Subject Matter Expert
    • Centrifugal pumps (overhung, between bearing, vertical, seal less, horizontal self-priming)
    • Positive displacement pumps (gear, diaphragm, screw)
    • Centrifugal compressors (>1500 hp)
    • Rotary screw air compressors and Receiver mounted reciprocating compressors
    • Blowers and fans
    • Elliott YR steam turbines
    • Process Chillers (>300-ton water cooled refrigerant compressors)
    • Cooling Towers (structure and mechanical rotating assembly)
    • All associated auxiliary equipment with the above (lube oil, seal flushes, coupling, motors, etc.)
    • Oversee field repairs on critical overhauls with mechanics and millwright
  • Execute Reliability Control Plans (RCPs) for responsible equipment, enter action items into GE APM/Meridium, and execute action items
    • Set up spare parts in SAP for components deemed critical as a result of the RCP
    • Develop Preventive/Predictive Maintenance plans for responsible equipment, enter scopes of work in SAP, work with Maintenance to set frequencies
    • Present capital upgrade projects with justification to management
    • Investigate low MTBF causes and develop upgrades to correct
  • Lead Management of Change (MOC) for responsible equipment
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis for failures and develop actions to prevent recurrence
  • Track PM compliance and feed PM work order coming due into the weekly maintenance schedule, track machinery work cost for PMs and upgrades/overhauls for next year planning
  • Develop scope of work for overhaul or upgrade activities on responsible equipment with QC
  • Write inspection/repair reports for major overhauls of equipment and input into reliability files
  • Support capital project team during design and implementation as machinery SME for applicable hold point approvals (per API 686)
  • Oversee lubrication program, working with maintenance department oiler for monitoring equipment through GE APM/Meridium rounds
  • Develop maintenance and reliability procedures as needed for responsible areas
  • Support turnaround planning and execution, including flange assembly QC



Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certified preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in chemical/petrochemical plant maintenance and/or reliability engineering experience



Additional Qualifications:

  • Internship/Co-op experience applying maintenance engineering principals to mechanical repair work for a variety of typical process plant equipment
  • Experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis
  • Experience in a leadership role; temporary or interim assignment acceptable
  • Experience using drafting and design software Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to perform physical tasks in an industrial plant environment including, but not limited to climbing ladders and performing confined space entries
  • Knowledge of mechanical machinery design, selection, repair techniques and performance assessment
  • Strong educational background in materials, mechanics, fluid flow, dynamics and heat transfer
  • Must be self-motivated and goal-oriented with proven success working independently and in a multi-functional team environment
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to manage multiple priorities
  • Able to use influence to accomplish goals and objectives
  • Hands-on experience using SAP work management system or similar
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
