AdvanSix has a multidiscipline in-house design and engineering department experienced in developing and executing capital projects for our internal customers.  This team is nested with the project management/project controls/construction groups providing direct collaboration individually and on teams.

The multidiscipline in-house design and engineering team works in collaboration with project managers, Operations, Procurement, Maintenance, and other engineers in the development of capital projects that strengthen our business.  On project teams, the Mechanical Engineer is expected to work directly with stakeholders on projects to ensure reliability, productivity, safety, and environmental objectives are met.
Job Overview:

Under direct supervision, perform a variety of engineering work in the initial planning and design phases of capital projects. Work closely with experienced personnel supporting the procurement, construction, and commissioning phases of projects with activities including assisting with preparation of labor/material estimates and design packages. Work typically performed in the office and in the field.

 

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

•    Interact positively with project team members to resolve day-to-day issues in a team environment.
•    Personally set a good example with all rules and regulations to achieve 100% universal compliance with HS&E (Health, Safety & Environmental) Procedures/Regulations.
•    Collect, compile, and validate field data including detailed dimensional measurements adjacent to hazardous locations, moving mechanical parts and noise. 
•    Climb, ladders and stairs and work safely on uneven ground.
•    Compile and validate data for project reports, collect and compile field data, assist proposal efforts as directed, document technical data for management review and provide other entry level duties as assigned. 
•    Collect and interpret engineering data to develop project designs and specifications. 
•    Perform system walk downs to identify deficiencies and ensure compliance to design and customer requirements. 
•    Review process package and prepare equipment/material specifications sheets to order items.  Review with vendor to confirm capability and delivery to meet project objectives
•    Apply applicable engineering codes and standards including ANSI, API and ASME as well as company policies and procedures.
•    Validate materials of construction for piping, pressure vessels and above ground storage tanks.
•    Validate piping design and engineering including the use and selection of key components such as valves, hangers, supports, expansion loops, and spring cans.
•    Apply engineering analytical and technical tools such as Caesar II, PVElite, NozzlePro and Solidworks FEA.
•    10% travel 

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of chemical or industrial plant piping systems and process equipment REQUIRED.
  • BSME from a four (4) year accredited college or university.
  • 2-4+ years of work experience.
  • Able to read PFDs, P&IDs, line lists, equipment lists, and project scopes.
  • Knowledge about how pressure and temperature effects material strength.
  • Experience with ASME B31.3 and B31.1 and ASME Section VIII codes.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, 2D and possibly 3D.
  • Experience with Hexagon PV Elite and Caesar II software.

 

Other Basic Qualifications: 

  • Self-driven, energetic with analytical aptitude and a high regard to details.
  • Able to perform multiple tasks and follow tasks to completion.
  • Have excellent organization skills as week as strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and computer literacy required.
  • Possess the ability to excel in a team environment.
  • Possess sound judgement and strong problem-solving skills.

 

Desired/Preferred Qualifications: 

•    Experience with industrial equipment, installations, or equipment layouts.
•    Hands-on experience in installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment in industrial facility.
•    Experience with a multidiscipline environment with the ability to coordinate with mechanical, civil, and electrical disciplines. 
•    Exposure to SolidWorks, NozzlePro, and other Finite Element Methods (FEA) tools and applications.
•    Engineering Fundamentals (E.I.T.) Exam completed or planned for near term.
