Quality Control – Chemist

Position Summary: The Analytical Chemist works in a 24/7 unionized, in-process, finished product, and environmental testing laboratory for the manufacturing plant(s).

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Supervise laboratory technician performing analytical testing and ensuring their compliance with all safety procedures

· Validate laboratory technician results and provide troubleshooting maintenance support for all laboratory instrumentation

· Provide analytical and technical support for both internal and external customers

· Ensure compliance with ISO-9001:2008 quality management system and environmental VELAP certification

· Develop, validate, and implement new or improved analysis methods

· Implement the organization’s operating system and structured safety program (SSP)

Basic Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in chemistry; Master’s degree in chemistry preferred

· Six Sigma Greenbelt certification preferred; NELAP certification preferred

· 5+ years of industrial analytical chemistry experience in organic and/or inorganic analysis

Additional Qualifications:

· Familiarity with routine quantitative chemical analysis, including instrumental and wet chemistry techniques

· Experience with quality management systems (ISO-9001:2008)

· Familiarity with operation of an environmental laboratory

· Skilled in wet chemistry analytical techniques including colorimetric, titrimetric, and gravimetric

· Skilled in data interpretation using SPC/SQC techniques

· Able to effectively supervise, direct, evaluate, and communicate with unionized workforce

· Must be able to demonstrate a commitment to safe work practices and participate in and improve the quality assurance safety programs

· Must be able to work independently, multitask, and prioritize work for self and others

· Must be a good team player with an ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment to contribute to multiple, complex, and competing projects

· Familiarity with the organization’s operating system preferred (5S, RPS, BIQ, LSW/SW, CI, Kaizen, Material Replenishment, etc.)

· Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; VBAc experience is helpful

· Experience with oracle-based LIMS and SAP is preferred

· Skilled in chromatography techniques especially gas, liquid, and ionic, with familiarity in operating data acquisition and processing software preferred

· Must be able to take off-hour calls when required and to provide on-call service for assigned weekends and holidays (approximately once per month)
