Position Summary:


An integral part of a strong corporate pressure relief device program is the establishment and

maintenance of a pressure relief device steward role for each site.  The role has four key responsibilities: Daily work, minor projects, long-term efforts, and personal development & mentorship. The time requirement for this role can vary from 50 – 100% depending on the ongoing relief device related projects and efforts, and the remainder will provide technical support to the operating areas.  It is a safety-critical function and should always have priority over other assigned project work.  A key aspect of the PRD steward role is keeping the status of relief devices and their activities up-to-date so that maintenance of this information is not affected by employee turnover.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the Site Master PRD List to ensure accuracy and compliance (PSI management)
  • Support Day-to-Day PRD Support/Troubleshooting Activities and management of change. Help evaluate newly identified overpressure scenarios, assist with code interpretations, PRD set point changes, outage needs, etc.
  • Support new plant PRD installations as needed.  Including design, package development, peer review, start-up support, etc.
  • Strengthen and maintain a communication culture between plant groups: operations, reliability, piping designers, project managers, and the PSM group to drive a robust culture and work process.
  • Stay Up to Date on Relief Device Standards and Codes
  • Train site process/tech engineers on relief device sizing and documentation as needed.
  • Actively seek support and mentorship from the corporate relief device discipline owner or SMEs.
  • Gain expertise in relief sizing software, dispersion modeling, or other knowledge related to relief devices as part of yearly goals and objectives
  • Support plant operations as technical resource as needed.


Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • 3+ years of process, production, or technical engineering experience in industries such as: Chemical, Petro-Chemical, Pulp & Paper, or Pharmaceutical preferred.


Additional Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of API standards 520 and 521
  • Experience working, designing, troubleshooting, and/or modeling Safety and Env compliance systems such as RVs, SIS, Flare, and Scrubber systems
  • Experience with release modeling software (PHAST, SAFER, etc.)
  • Ability to generate and implement process improvement ideas
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, Strong computer skills
