Position Summary: 

  • The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring we operate our facility in a safe and secure manner and in compliance with all corporate, local, state, and federal regulatory requirements while maintaining robust emergency response program. This role champions Health & Safety continuous improvement in the workplace through influencing employee engagement, team members, activities, and programs.  The role is one of a working leader with direct reports and reports to the site Plant Manager. 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Develop and implement specific tools and initiatives to increase awareness, engagement, and capability to achieve overall site health and safety objectives. 
  • Monitor, analyze, and communicate health and safety performance to drive continuous improvement. 
  • Drive execution of the enterprise wide HSE strategic plan and ensure alignment to site objectives.
  • Share learnings and good practices with other parts of the organization; actively contribute to corporate initiatives. 
  • Drive continuous improvements in focused areas, such as hazard recognition and human factors.
  • Coordinate efforts to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and local and state regulations. 
  • Support development of safety training materials and programs for all teammates
  • Develop and update all required written standards, policies, and procedures in accordance with company, local, state, and federal standards. 
  • Coordinate with other HSE functions on all on-site health, safety and security surveys including but not limited to noise and air monitoring, ergonomic surveys, insurance reviews, and other internal and external audits/assessments. 
  • Ensure safety investigations and causal assessments are completed for all significant incidents occurring at the plant, including hazard assessments, recommendations for improvements, and communication of resolution to all affected employees. 
  • Be a role model and advocate for the use of the STOP process.
  • Evaluate and give recommendations on ergonomics and safety for new equipment/line layout and design. 
  • Coordinate resources and contribute to the RC 14001 process. 
  • Ensure building security and compliance meet or exceed company standards. 
  • In consultation with company requirements, support internal safety audits and inspections to ascertain compliance with applicable legal requirements, company safety policies, and the facility’s Safety Compliance Program and appropriately document such events and efforts undertaken to address identified concerns. 
  • Ensure reporting of OSHA recordable/lost time incidences and required facility data based on incident reporting rules. 
  • Prepare written Emergency Response Plan and execute necessary procedures to validate.
  • Maintain the Business Continuity Plan for the site.
  • Assure proper retention of all applicable governmental records required of the facility to meet all federal, state, and company record retention requirements. 
  • File all required permits, forms, and documentation as required by the governing local, state/federal agencies within the required timeframe. Lead and mentor your direct reports. 

 

 

Basic Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in occupational safety, health or related discipline  
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Health, Safety, Security and/or Emergency Response areas in a utility generation, chemical manufacturing, or heavy industrial setting
  • 3+ years of leadership/people-management or equivalent experience 

   

 

Additional Qualifications:   

  • Demonstrated experience in safety cultural change and continuous improvement. 
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and Worker’s Compensation Law 
  • Strong computer and Microsoft Office Skills  
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including training and presentation skills.  
  • Strong technical writing skills (policies, procedures, reference manuals, etc.)  
  • Ability to influence with integrity without direct control, across all levels of the organization.  
  • Excellent interpersonal and employee relations skills  
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.  
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.
