At AdvanSix, it all starts with our communities. We strive to be good neighbors and partners in the communities where we operate. We feel a deep sense of responsibility to maintain safe, stable and sustainable operations and to say thank you and give back in many different ways. We are proud to have an employee base where volunteering and supporting the community is a core value. We are committed to transparency and communications within our communities, and always look forward to the opportunity to engage with our neighbors.
Giving Back to Our Communities
AdvanSix is committed to responsible, proactive citizenship — both in our local communities and in our industry. We are proud of our strong, active involvement with a wide range of local and national organizations that advance our industry, support those in need and protect our environment.
Supporting the Next Generation
Through a variety of scholarship programs and support of youth development programs such as the Boys and Girls Club, we provide opportunities for the next generation.
We recognize that natural resources are limited and precious, therefore we sponsor local environmental stewardship programs, including the James River Association, and have contributed funding and leadership to Hopewell Water Renewal., a local wastewater treatment facility. We recognize that our environmental footprint goes beyond compliance, with responsibility for cumulative impacts on our community’s environment.
Recognizing that with economic development comes opportunities for the entire community to prosper. We engage with local chambers of commerce to drive local economic development in our communities.
AdvanSix demonstrates its leadership by serving on the board of directors for many community organizations, including the Rebuilding Together® Richmond, Virginia chapter; Hopewell/Prince George Chamber of Commerce; Virginia Manufacturers Association; and Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia (Bridesburg).
Supporting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Education
AdvanSix teamed with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and others to establish FOSSI (Future of STEM Scholars Initiative). The program awards life-changing scholarships to students who plan to attend historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) to study STEM-related fields. AdvanSix has been a founding partner with FOSSI and sponsored a total of ten scholarships in 2021 and 2022.
“At AdvanSix, we strive to be good neighbors and partners by giving back to the communities where we live and work. We are proud members of all the communities which we operate, and are committed to making a positive impact through our community engagement activities.”
Andy Girvin, Integrated Supply Chain Leader and Plant Manager, Hopewell
Being a Good Neighbor
Caring for the communities where we live and work is one of the ways we live our AdvanSix values. For example, at our Frankford plant in the Bridesburg neighborhood of Philadelphia, our plant leadership meets regularly throughout the year with a long-running community advisory board to provide open dialogue and transparency. We also do our part to keep our neighborhood clean, such as through annual fence-line clean-ups, when our teammates volunteer their time to pick up trash and tidy the sidewalks around our site. Our support of the Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club brings us closer to the next generation and we take every opportunity to help them learn about STEM and manufacturing careers.
