Built For Three Generations and Rebuilt By AdvanSix

More than 30 AdvanSix volunteers helped complete critical home repairs for a Hopewell resident, whom her neighbors call a “community staple.” The project was one of three in the Greater Richmond region completed as part of National Rebuilding Day.

The volunteer event represents the most recent collaboration in AdvanSix’s decade-long partnership with Rebuilding Together Richmond, the local chapter of the national nonprofit focused on repairing homes and revitalizing communities.

For the Hopewell resident, the rebuild marked the start of a new chapter in a home that’s been in her family for three generations. “This was my grandfather’s, then my mother’s, and now my inheritance,” shared the homeowner. “These people are so compassionate and willing to accommodate my situation. Everyone brought something to contribute. Everyone has a gift to offer, just like these volunteers here. It’s a blessing.”

During an initial site assessment, Rebuilding Together identified drainage issues, cracks and holes in the exterior, and weatherization repairs that needed to be addressed. The home, a duplex, also needed new floors and fresh interior paint. One side of the duplex is occupied by the homeowner, and the other by some of her family members. Rebuilding Together Richmond recognized the duplex as an opportunity to double their efforts.

“When we saw this home was a duplex on family land, we knew it was an opportunity to do something bigger, supporting not just a property, but protecting a generational asset. With a project like this, it made sense to bring in a strong volunteer team, and AdvanSix was a natural fit given their continued commitment to Hopewell,” said Malcolm Jones, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together Richmond. “Together, we’re not just improving a home, we’re helping sustain something that can be passed down.”

The project was funded through a combination of financial support from AdvanSix and grant funds from the Local Initiatives Support Corporation. AdvanSix donates $10,000 annually to Rebuilding Together Richmond to help provide home improvements to as many homes as possible.

“We’re thankful to the homeowner for welcoming us into her home, as well as to our teammates for showing up for our community to volunteer for National Rebuilding Day,” said Georgia Sink, outreach and engagement manager for AdvanSix. “We are thrilled to be working with Rebuilding Together again with a neighbor in Hopewell. The work Rebuilding Together does for our community is transformative, and I can’t thank our volunteers enough for supporting their mission.”
