Position Summary:

The Chemical Process Operator is responsible for operating equipment and machinery to ensure safe, reliable, on-spec, and efficient operation of the chemical plant processes.  The Operator monitors and controls parameters such as level, temperature, pressure, flow rates, and chemical concentrations to achieve the desired processing results at the Frankford, Philadelphia location.


Summary of the Main Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to standard operating procedures to ensure unit safety, quality and production goals are met
  • Perform daily inspections for leaks, hazards, and abnormal conditions to reduce interruptions
  • Operate various process equipment, filters, reactors, and pumps in compliance with prescribed operating procedures
  • Monitor plant equipment
  • Adjust valves and controls as need to maintain desired operation
  • Provide detailed verbal and written updates regarding operating activities and abnormalities
  • Advise Board Chief and supervision of deviations in operating conditions
  • Troubleshoot process issues and take corrective action to ensure a safe and sustainable operating area
  • Start up and shut down unit processes
  • Prepare unit equipment for maintenance work (Shutdown, decontamination, LOTO, work permitting)
  • Draw process samples for quality testing
  • Participate as member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), including fire brigade and HazMat technician


Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, industrial, and/or chemical plant operations, or relevant educational background is required

  • Ability to work on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions (cold, hot, humid, rain, snow, etc.)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to perform the physical labor associated with the job
  • Possess a strong work ethic and initiative to learn new processes
  • Ability to work at elevated heights – greater than 50 feet
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver a safe workspace based on following standard work
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and take corrective action within an industrial setting
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills
  • The ability to handle and work with highly hazardous chemical intermediates
