Position Summary:
AdvanSix has a multidiscipline in-house design and engineering department experienced in developing and executing capital projects for our internal customers. This team is nested with the project management/project controls/construction groups providing direct collaboration and participation individually and on teams.
As part of our Design team, you will work in collaboration with other Designers, Engineers, project managers, operations, procurement, maintenance, in the development of projects to strengthen our business. On project teams you will collaborate directly with stakeholders on projects to improve reliability, productivity, safety, and environment.
Job Overview:
Under minimal supervision, perform a variety of mechanical design functions for successful project execution. Support procurement, construction, and commissioning phases of projects with activities including assisting with preparation of labor/material estimates and design packages. Work typically performed in office and field.
Key Responsibilities:
• Must personally set a good example with all HS&E (Health, Safety & Environmental) Procedures/Regulations to achieve 100% universal compliance.
• Participate in safety audits
• Able and willing to Mentor and train less experienced designers
• All work must be performed with a high understanding of project design budget and schedule, quality and constructability.
• Possess strong understanding of Heavy Industrial Facilities with the ability to create and review equipment drawings, layouts
• Able to perform systems walk downs to identify and analyze field conditions in operating facilities.
• Able to prepare redlines of current plant drawings to reflect “As-Built” conditions.
• Able to create 3D model design for equipment and piping installation drawings such as but not limited to pumps, compressors, tanks, blowers, fans, etc.
• Understand piping specifications; materials of construction, pipe hanger supports and expansion loops, spring cans diagrams.
• Review and integrate vendor schematics and drawings into site-based designs to meet project objectives.
• Review process packages and review equipment/material specifications to integrate into the design process.
• Verification to applicable engineering codes and standards as well as company policies and procedures.
• Work with Construction Management personnel to ensure mechanical produced are in compliance with operations/execution with federal, state, local and plant codes/policies.
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills with personnel of all levels (Craft through Leadership).
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in an industrial manufacturing facility (chemical, pulp/paper, refinery, etc.) to include:
• 10 plus years of AutoCAD or equivalent Certification of its use
• 5 years field installation knowledge of Mechanical equipment, piping, equipment layouts
• Strong understanding of P&IDs and PFD’s
• Knowledgeable of current ASME, ANSI, API standards, including application to installation
• 3D Computer Aided Drafting and Design experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel)
• High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
• Associates Degree in Mechanical Technology or Mechanical Engineering
• Travel 10% or less (to other AdvanSix Facilities)
