A Journey into Manufacturing
Shaniya’s path to AdvanSix was inspired by friends who had previously interned with the company. Their feedback about a supportive culture and growth opportunities intrigued her and, as a chemical engineering graduate from Virginia Tech, she was eager to apply her knowledge joining AdvanSix as a Production Engineer in 2024.
The Role of a Production Engineer
So, what does a Production Engineer do? As Shaniya explains, her role is centered around troubleshooting and ensuring that operations run smoothly. Every day she works to identify potential issues, determine their root causes and implement solutions to prevent them from recurring. Shaniya interacts with colleagues across different departments, including maintenance teams, production planners and fellow engineers all working toward a shared goal of excellence and efficiency. The willingness of her teammates to share knowledge and support one another has made a lasting impression on her. “The culture of collaboration here at AdvanSix is really strong… I can ask anyone a question and they’re always willing to help,” she says. “You have great people to work alongside you, always helping you.”
Making an Impact
AdvanSix products are found in countless industries, from automotive to agriculture. The Chesterfield facility where Shaniya is based is one of the largest U.S. producers of nylon 6 resins, which are used by our customers to produce fibers, filaments, engineered plastics and films that, in turn, are used in such end-products as carpets, automotive and electric components, sports apparel, food packaging and other industrial applications. The impact of the products she helps create is a point of pride for Shaniya: “Just knowing that I’m making a difference and impact on people’s lives is just amazing, and I’m so happy that I’m here to do that here at AdvanSix,” she says.
