“At AdvanSix, safety is in our DNA”, explains Achilles Kintiroglou, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at AdvanSix.
Ensuring safe, stable and sustainable operations for our teammates, sites and communities is key to being a leading diversified chemistry company.
“Safety is a core value exemplified in everything we do. We call this Living Safety,” continues Kintiroglou. “Living Safety is a choice we make hundreds of times every day in each decision we make and action we take, whether at work or at home, to protect those around us.”
At AdvanSix, every teammate plays a vital role in Living Safety every day, paving the way toward achieving and sustaining a zero-incident workplace. That’s why in 2024, AdvanSix President and CEO Erin Kane announced The Living Safety Leadership Award to recognize the impact that new ideas for safety projects, site initiatives and identifying and correcting hazards can have on the safety of our operations.
Teams across AdvanSix stepped up in a big way for the inaugural Living Safety Leadership Award, with all sites participating in the submission of 14 total initiatives for consideration. A cross-functional review committee carefully evaluated each submission and selected three finalist teams from our Hopewell, Chesterfield and Frankford sites. These teams then had the opportunity to present their impactful safety improvements to the AdvanSix Senior Leadership Team, who evaluated the projects and ultimately recognized one team for a safety improvement initiative that has had a significant positive impact on our performance and truly embodies Living Safety.
And the winner of the first-ever AdvanSix Living Safety Leadership Award was a team from our Chesterfield site!
“Every day I’m inspired by the passion for safety that our teammates bring to work from the executive level to the manufacturing floor. Our organization thrives on curiosity, innovation, collaboration and so does safety,” said Ana Martin, Sr. Director of HSE at AdvanSix. “I’m very proud of the diverse range of safety initiatives that have been implemented by our own employees, and that every manufacturing and packaging plant participated in this first award.”
About the winning project
Our Chesterfield facility is one of the largest U.S. producers of nylon 6 resins, which are used in carpet fiber, automobile parts, food packaging and more. The team recognized a need and mobilized to implement critical fire protection upgrades at the site. In addition to instituting preventative and corrective actions, the site took risk mitigation actions ensuring Fire Protection became a key plant HS&E focus.
The Chesterfield team truly Lived Safety by making critical fire protection improvements, reducing risks and strengthening our emergency response. Their hard work didn’t just make the plant safer-it showed what teamwork, innovation and a dedication to living safety can accomplish.
As winners of the Living Safety Leadership Award, the team has selected the Chesterfield County Fire and EMS – Station 18 to receive a monetary donation on their behalf.
