Is there any difference between fertilizing my corn with ammonium sulfate versus elemental sulfur?
Yes. Sulfate sulfur is the only form of sulfur roots take up. The oxidation of elemental sulfur to sulfate sulfur is slow, and factors such as granular size and soil temperature greatly impact the speed of conversion. Research studies have shown that the availability of sulfur from elemental sulfur is almost nil during the season of application, or even the year of application.
