Can ammonium sulfate be used in no-till systems?
Yes, as it resists nitrogen loss from volatilization. Residue left on the soil surface in conservation-till systems, such as no-till systems, can promote volatilization when urea and urea-containing fertilizers like UAN solutions are broadcast without being incorporated into the soil. Within the neutral to acidic soil pH levels considered optimum for growing most crops, ammonium sulfate is virtually non-volatile.
