Why is the size of fertilizer granules important?
It has to do with ballistics – the size and density of a granule determines how fast and far it can be thrown by a fertilizer spreader. When blending fertilizers, it is important to choose granules that are roughly equivalent in this regard to allow for thorough blending. The goal is to avoid segregation of the different components within a blend so each nutrient is evenly applied across the field.
