When is the best time to lime?
In general, any time you may go over a field without damaging a crop or causing unnecessary soil compaction is also a good time to spread lime. Keep in mind that it should be applied with enough time in advance of planting to allow its reaction with the soil. It is also important to remember that lime should not be applied together with nitrogen sources that are liable to react with it and produce ammonia gas (nitrogen loss).
